Not only are lasting bonds made between dogs and their owners but they can also make your home more secure (deterring burglars). Dog owners tend to lead healthier lifestyles, stronger immune systems and lower stress levels. There’s no denying that a dog can keep you fit but studies have shown that children that own dogs are less likely to have days off school.<\/p>\n

Larger dogs actually tend to make better pets where children are concerned. Some small dog breeds are not able to put up with some of the abuse that kids throw at them. Constant handling can cause them to feel threatened and more likely to bit or nip back. Larger breeds are more capable in this respect and less likely to feel threatened.<\/p>\n

For that reason I should point out that this article concerns breeds that are kid friendly which isn’t to imply that children are capable of caring for these animals on their own. Many in this list are large active dogs that require an adults strength to control them when they get over excited.<\/p>\n

To help you in your search we’ve compiled a list of the top 5 canines that get along with children. There’s no particular order of friendliness and each dog has it’s own unique personality but as breeds go these are the friendliest ones.<\/p>\n

Golden Retrievers<\/h2>\n

Golden Retrievers are beautiful dogs, both in looks and nature and honestly who can resist those gorgeous eyes?<\/p>\n

Originally bred as hunting dogs<\/a>, to retrieve waterfowl ,they are loyal, obedient and one of the most popular breeds around. Due to their sporting heritage they are lively animals and do require plenty of exercise so prepare to put on your running shoes when you take them out.<\/p>\n

These intelligent dogs are very social and thrive in human company. Being a large breed with a relatively long coat they do shed often will require a fair amount of grooming, once or twice a week.<\/p>\n

While they love playing outside they are more passive and calm once inside the house and make great companions for children.<\/p>\n

Boxers<\/h2>\n

These hunky sacks of lovable muscle are not only loyal and intelligent but are very playful and make great companions.<\/p>\n

The short hair means that they have problems keeping warm in very cold weather and their short noses means that they can have issues cooling off in summer. American Stafford Terrier are not what some may consider a child friendly dog, the short hair, muscular frame and in-your-face stare may put a lot of people off but looks can be deceiving. This breed\u00a0is fiercely loyal towards people when correctly integrated into a family.<\/p>\n

While sweet-natured with family\u00a0their\u00a0fighting ancestry means that they do not take lightly to being confronted by other dogs and won’t take any nonsense from strangers. Bad news for any burglars thinking to make a quick score on your house, good news if you want to protect your family.<\/p>\n

This once popular breed has been seen dropping down the ranks recently due to some bad rep from certain publicized incidents involving\u00a0irresponsible pet owners and poor training. This is not an issue if your Am Staff\u00a0has been brought up in a positive loving environment.<\/p>\n

Training is very important in the early years for these animals. They need\u00a0extensive socializing and a confident owner to let them know who the boss is.<\/p>\n

One downside to having an\u00a0American Stafford Terrier is that they do not play well with other animals so if you have existing pets then you may want to look elsewhere.<\/p>\n

This muscular breed requires\u00a0moderate exercise to keep in interested and stop them chewing on your slippers.<\/p>\n

With short hair you won’t have to do much grooming, just the occasional brush off while you’re out chasing squirrels.<\/p>\n
