Dog Boots

Most people may laught at the idea of dogs wearing boots, passing them off as a gimmick or fad, but they actually serve a very important task. We take our dogs for walks in all types of weather and on all types of surfaces, from hot tarmac in summer to freezing fields in winter so doesn't it make sense that we should take some responsibility for protecting their paws as well?

Dog booties or socks can also be used inside of your home to protect your hardwood floors from scratches and stop your dog from slipping all over the place.

In the garden they can deter your dog from digging up your prized flowers and save you the hassle of having to clean their feet everytime that they come into the house.

Choosing the Best Dog Boot

Dogs aren't acustomed to wearing boots so it wont come as too much of a surprise when they rip them off the first couple of times. But don't worry they will adapt to them over time.

Finding a shoe that fits can be more difficult as dogs don't have set paw sizes and it can be difficult to measure their feet due to the lack of an ankle. Nevertheless here area few tips for finding the perfect dog boot.

1. Shoes should fit snuggly, Not too tight that they restrict blood flow but not too loose that they fall off easily. Manufacturers can measure their boots in different ways so be sure to follow their directions when selecting a shoe. Velcro straps are used to keep booties in place normally.

2. You get what you pay for. When it comes to dog boots cheaper definately is not better.

3. Adjust the shoes. The first time that you try new booties keep your dog on a lease. That way you can keep adjusting the fit of the boots until you are sure that they are not going to fall of quickly. It would be a shame to lose them in thick brush on your first walk.
